FAQ's
Travelers from over 100 countries can enter Fiji visa-free for short stays. However, entry requirements can change, so it is your responsibility to check the latest visa and travel advisories specific to your nationality. Please consult the Fiji Immigration Department or your local consulate for up-to-date information before departure.
Tipping is not traditionally expected in Fijian culture, but it is appreciated for exceptional service. If you wish to tip guides, village hosts, or lodge staff, it should be done discreetly and respectfully.
Internet access is limited in remote villages and while sailing on the Uto ni Yalo. Wi-Fi may be available at eco-lodges and First Landing Beach Resort, but connectivity is basic. Local networks like Vodafone Fiji and Digicel cover most mainland areas, but reception is unreliable in the highlands and at sea. Consider purchasing a local SIM in Nadi if you need consistent access.
You will experience a range of facilities:
Western-style flush toilets at eco-lodges, resorts, and some village stays.
Traditional pit or squat toilets in remote villages (e.g., Navala, Nabalasere).
Basic marine toilets onboard the Uto ni Yalo.
We recommend carrying your own toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and a small supply of soap.
Tap water is not recommended for drinking in most parts of Fiji. Filtered or boiled water will be provided at accommodations and onboard the sailing vessel. Please bring a reusable water bottle to refill.
Credit cards are accepted at larger resorts, eco-lodges, and in towns like Nadi and Suva. However, in rural villages and during community visits, you will need cash (Fijian dollars) for small purchases, donations, or handicrafts.
ATMs are available in Nadi, Suva, and larger towns. Once you depart for the village and sailing segments, ATMs will not be accessible. We recommend withdrawing sufficient cash before Day 1.
Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for all guests. Your policy must cover medical emergencies, evacuation, trip cancellation, and adventure activities (including sailing, trekking, and snorkelling). Proof of insurance will be required before departure.
Fiji is progressive by Pacific standards, with constitutional protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation. However, public displays of affection are generally discouraged. We advise discretion and respect for local customs, especially in traditional village settings.
This is an active journey involving:
- Guided nature walks and waterfall treks
- Horseback riding
- Kayaking and snorkelling
- Sailing and climbing aboard a traditional canoe
A moderate level of fitness and mobility is recommended. Please advise us of any health conditions beforehand.
- Lightweight, modest clothing for village visits (covered shoulders and knees)
- Swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, hat
- Sturdy walking shoes and sandals
- Reusable water bottle, torch/flashlight, insect repellent
- Small gifts for village hosts (optional but appreciated—e.g., school supplies, books)
This safari is designed in partnership with local communities and aligned with GSTC principles. Your participation supports:
- Community-led tourism initiatives
- Environmental conservation (tree planting, marine protection)
- Preservation of cultural heritage
A portion of proceeds is directed toward local projects and the Intrepid Foundation partners, including Eden Reforestation Projects and World Bicycle Relief.
Yes. Please advise us of any dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergies) when booking. Meals are prepared using local ingredients, and options can be adjusted with advance notice.
Itineraries may be adjusted for safety due to weather, especially sailing and outdoor activities. Alternative cultural or nature-based activities will be provided. Decisions are made by experienced local guides and the tour leader.
